Subsequently the structure of the Regiment changed dramatically as a result of initial reductions within the Brigade of Gurkhas and the withdrawal from Hong Kong. Since then there has been a welcome expansion of the Regiment and the Brigade. Until fairly recently The Regiment had been embodied in 67, 69 & 70 Gurkha Field Squadrons QGE. However, on 27 September 2025 20 Field Support Squadron Royal Engineers was redesignated and reforn]ed as 68 Gurkha Field Support Squadron, the Queen's Gurkha Engineers. .This brings the establishment to 4 QGE Squadrons, current strength 590 all ranks and this will grow to 623 by 2028. 67 Gurkha Field Squadron, 68 Gurkha Field Support Squadron and 69 Gurkha Field Squadron forn] part of 36 Engineer Regiment Royal Engineers whilst 70 Gurkha Parachu'te Squadron is part of 23 Parachute Regiment Royal Engineers. The year 2025/2026 was the thirteenth full year that the Trust operated under the tern]s of the merger agreement whereby the Regimental Association's account and that of the Perowne Memorial Trust Fund amalgamated with the Regimental Trust. The Perowne Trust has now been wound up and so the account now only embraces the combined funds of the Trust and the Asso.ciation. All the banking arrangements for the combined Fund were centralised with Holt's Military Banking. This has enabled a greatly simplified set of accounts to be produced with the participating entities having their income and expenditure consolidated under headings such as subscriptions, charitable donations, fraternity and administration. Objects of the Trust The objects of the Trust are: To promote the efficiency of the Regiment and the maintenance of its history, traditions and esprit de corps. b. To purchase such chattels and other property as is, in the opinion of the Managing Trustees, for the benefit of the Regiment and to insure and maintain such property.
For other charitable purposes, promoting efficiency or esprit de corps of all ranks of or serving with the Regiment, including the provision of recreational facilities and amenities not provided for out of public funds. d. To provide for the rélief of hardship, distress or poverty amongst serving or forn]er members of the Brigade of Gurkhas and dependents by the provision or application of monies whether by gift or loan. These objects have been borne in mind by the Trustees during the period under review. Trustees and advisers. Ex-officio: The Colonel of the Regiment, Major General J.L. The Gurkha Major, Major Khada Bahadur Gurung QGE Two Co-opted Trustees retired during the year. Income and Expenditure The accounts attached to this report show the combined income and expenditure of the Regimental Trust. Income has arisen from the investment in the BlackRock Anned Forces Charities Growth & Income Fund and from bank deposit interest as well as from subscriptions, many under Gift Aid, from Members of the Regiment. A £16,305.84 grant from the Brigade of Gurkhas Education and Welfare Fund was received and the proceeds spent on welfare for the direct benefit of serving members of the Regiment. Expenditure has covered such aspects as the publication of the Regimental Journal, the Regimental Birthday and Deshain, a contribution to the Britain Nepal Society and to meeting certain other minor grants and administrative expenses. Risk assessment andpolicy.
The Trustees review the risks, which might affect the Charity, on a regular basis. The main risk is assessed as being a major collapse of the Stock Market but, nevertheless, they consider that their investments, which are professionally managed by a major financial organisation, are as well diversified as they can be. The Trustees have experienced previous down turns in the market but, being a charity with long tern] expectations and requirements, they are content that their present investment policy is the proper one. No documents are required to cover volunteer management, safeguarding vulnerable beneficiaries and complaints handling as the Charity has, and does not expect to have, any involvement in such matters. Activities and achievements. The activities planned for during the year namely the support of welfare and the maintenance of esprit de corps, were all achieved and were successful. The Rules of the Regimental Association were reviewed, updated and published during the year. Governance. Trustees are selected on the basis of special skills that they can offer which will benefit the Charity in tenns of its operation. A balance is maintained in order to ensure that both the interests of serving personnel as well as those of the retired are adequately and properly represented. Trustees, training is mainly achieved by virtue of positions held by Trustees in their civilian or military capacities. Where necessary, the Independent Services Agency Ltd provides specialised technical advice on relevant current charity matters. Use is also made of external Trustee training seminars. The Trustees are all "volunteers" and offer their services on a financially un-rewarded basis. No other volunteers are employed. The Treasurer's Agency is paid for its services but the Treasurer himself receives no direct financial benefit. No regular fund-raising activities were or are employed. Public Benefit The Trust achieves its objectives by the making of charitable grants out of its capital and income for the purpose of promoting the efficiency of the arn]ed forces of The Crown, particularly by supporting the welfare of serving, and forn]erly serving, personnel and in commemorating the history and traditions of the Regiment. The Charity makes a range of grants that, support activities that are not adequately, or directly, provided from Public Funds. The Trustees recognise the benefits that this brings to the Arn]y generally. They consider, therefore, that the Charity more than meets the requirement to provide Public Benefit under the charitable "Head" of "the promotion of the efficiency of the arn]ed forces of The Crown"
