REGIMENTAL TRUST FOR THE YEAR ENDED 281FI FEBRUARY 2I125

The Queen's Gurkha Engineers Regimental Trust came into being on 10 March 1992.
when the Trust Deed was fornially adopted. Subsequently the structure of the Regiment
changed dramatically as a result of reductions within the Brigade of Gurkhas and the
withdrawal trom Hong Kong.
Until recently The Regiment had been embodied in 69 & 70 Gurkha Field Squadrons QCJE,
which forn]ed part of 36 Engineer Regiment however on 13 July 2023 20 Field Squadron
Royal F.ngineers was redesignaied and refornied as 67 Gurkha Field Squadron, the Queen's
Gurkha Engineers. This made it the second Gurkha F ield Squadron in 36 F.ngineer Regiment
and the third Queen's Gurkha F.ngineer Squadron. 70 Gurkha Parachute Squadron now sits
under 23 Air Assault Regimeni Royal Engineers.
The year 2024/2025 was the twelfth full year that the Trust operated under the tern]s of the
mLrger agreement whereby the Regimental Association's account and that of thc Perowne
Memorial Trust Fund amalgamated with the Regimental Trust. The Perowne Trust has now
been wound up and s() th¢ account now only embraces the combined funds of the Trust and
the Association. All the banking arrangements lor the combined fund were Lentralised with
Holt's Military Banking. This has enabled a greatly simplified set of accounts to be
produced with the participating entities having their income and expenditure consoliddted
under headings such as subscriptions, charitable donations (including educational grants),
traternity and administration.
Objects of the Trust
The objects of the Trust are:
To promote the efticiency of the Regiment and the maintenance of its history, traditions
and esprit de corps.
b. To purchase such chattels and other property as is, in the opinion of the Managing
Trustees, for the benefit of the Regiment and to insure and maintain such properly.
For other charitable purposes, promoting efficiency or esprit de corps of all ranks of or
serving with the Regiment, including the provision of recreational facilities and
amenities not provided for out of public funds.

d. To provide for the relief of hardship, distress or poverty amongst serving or former
members of the Brigade of Gurkhas and dependents by the provision or application of
monies whether by gift or loan.
These objects have been borne in mind by the Trustees during the period under review.

and the proceeds spent on welfare t.or the direct benefit of serving members ot.the Regiment.
Expenditure has covered such aspects as the publication of the Regimental Journal, the
holding of a Reception al the Housc of Commons (largely tunded by those attending the
event). the Rcgimental Birthday and Deshain, contributions to the Gurkha Brigade
Association, the Britain N¢pdl Solicty and to meeting certain other minor grants and
administrative expenses.
Risk assessmeni andpolicy.
The Trustees review the risks, which might aftect the Ch¢wity, on a regular basis. 'fhe main
risk is assessed as being a major collapse of the Stock Market but, nevertheless, they
consider that their investments, which are prof¢ssionally manag¢d by a major finanLial
organisation, are as well diversified as they can be. The Trustees have experienced previous
down turns in the market but. being a charity with long tem] expectations and requirem¢nts,
they are content that their present investmLnt policy is thc proper onc.

No documents are required to cover volunteer management, safeguarding vulnerable
beneficiaries and complaints handling as the Charity has, and does not expect to have, any
involvement in such matters.
Aclivilies and achievements.
The activities planned for during the year namely the support of welfare and the maintenance
of esprit de corps, were all achieved and were successful.
'rhe Rules of the Regimental Association were reviewed and updated during the year.
Governance.
I ruslees are selected on the basis of special skills that they can offer which will benefit the
Charity in tern]s of its operation. A balance is maintained in order to ensure thai both the
interests ot" serving personnel as well as those of the retired are adequately and properly
rLpresenled. Trustees, training is mainly achieved by virtue ot"positions held by 'frustees in
Iheir civilian or military capdLities. Where neLL'ssary, the Independent ServiLes AgyenLy Ltd
provides specialised technical advice on rLlevant current charity matters. Use is also main
of external Trustee training seminars.
'rhe Trustees are all "volunteers" and ofter their services on a financially un-rewarded basis.
No other volunteers are employed. The treasurer's Agency is paid for its services but the
treasurer himsclt. receives no direct tinancial benLfit.
No regular fund-raising activities were or are employed.
Public Benef
The Trust achieves its objectives by the making ot" charitable grants out of its capital and
income for the purpose of promoiing the efficiency of the arn)cd forces of The Crown,
particularly by supporting the wclfare of serving, and fonnerly serving, personnel and in
commemorating the history and traditions of the Regiment.
The Charity makes a range of grants that. support activities that are not adequately. or
directly. provided from Public Flunds. The Trustees recognise the benefits that this brings
lo the Am]y generally.
They consider, therefore, that the Charity more than meets the requirement to provide Public
BenL'til under the charitable "Head" of "the promotion of the efficiency of the amied torces
ot"The cro￿￿,
Plansfor Ihefulure.
The Trustees intend to grow the assets of the Regimental Trust and the Regimental
Association. They will continue to assist the Regiment with grants for suitable charitable
purposes.
