The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in not8 1 to the
financi81 ststements and comply with the charitys Memorandum and Articles of Association daled 28 April 1988

Milton Keynes Women's Aid18 a member of the Women's Aid Federatlon for England (WAFE). MKWA is also
company limSted by guarantee and as such operatés under the name MK-ACT Dom8Stlc Vlolence Intervention
se￿iceS. We have been providing safe 8m8rg8ncy accommodati¢Jn in Milton K8yn8s for V￿m8n and th8ir
chlldren escaping Domestic Abuse IDAI for nearfy 50 yoars. Mllton K8yn8s Clty Councll has support8d our
activities as they have developed and we have worked closely with the Council and wilh Bedford Pilgrim Houslng
Assoclatlon to develop purposfrbullt refuge acGommodatlon.
Slnce 2008 we have been ¢omml$8loned to provlde a range of DA servlces under contract to Milton Keynes City
Councll under the brandlng of MK-ACT, brlrvJlng us togethar as one organls8tlon, We won the contract again in
2020. the ierm of this contract Is for a mlnimum of 5 years. Our servlces Currently compdso places of refuge for
woman and children who hav8 exp8rienc8d or are at risk of DA, a Crlsls Sgrvl¢e wth h8lplln9s for vlctlms and
professionals, a perpetrator programm8 with partn8r 8UPPOrt, an outr88ch 88rvic8, d8V8lopmenl programme$
and tralnlng, counselllng and a volunteer programme.
We work ¢0118boratlV91y V￿th local and reglonal agencles and other relevant organlsallons to achieve our alms
and strategic obj8CtIV88. Mlssion Statement MK-ACT is an irKlependent charitable organisation that works to
protect adults and childr8n from domestl¢ land sexual) vlolence and abuse by provldlng a range of high quality
support services, Includlng places of refug8 for women and children who have 8xp8rienced or are at rlsk of DA,
and worklng to empower and encourage survlvors to rebulld their lives. free from vlolence and abuse. Our
prlmary purpose Is to address violence agalnst V￿Men and glrls through our activities and seNic8s. In
acknowledgement of the gendered nature of DA, our focus Is on v￿Men and chlld survlvors of DA.

The Charity achl8ves its oblectlves by runnlng a number of refuges to house women and thelr families, a Crlsis
Service, Perp8trator Programme. Voluntser Servic8 and OLrtreach Support. Th8 Charity is contracted by the
local Council to provlde a Domestlc Vlol8nce SeNle8 for Milton Keynes.
Publ1¢ Bone
The Trustegs have consldered th8 publlc benefit guidance publlshed by the Charlty Commisslon and are
8atisfl8d that the Charltys facililles are made available to all appropriate members of the public. Wh8re thè
tenants are unable to meet their rental payments directly, council funding is available to ensure that all membors
of the public can b8 provided wlth accommodation wlthout reference to thelr financlal position. The Charltys
helpllne Is available during office hours and our accommodation provision has the facility in emergency
sltuattons an onwcall functlon. The trust88S. Staff and volunt88rs of the Charity are continuing to raise awarenes8
of the Charltys servlce8 in order to ralse awarene88 of the 8ervlce8 provided.
Achl•voments and p•rformonc•
In the lasl year Mli ton Keynes Women's Aid has continued to meet targets and deliv8r plannéd i)utcomes relatlng
to our main contract. meeting all r618vant quality standards. Our conli8¢t with Milton K6yn8s Clty Council
contlnues until 2025 to provlde Dom8stic Vlol8ncé Servlces for the clty of Mllton K6yne8 also undertaklng savoral
related proJ8Cts which arè funded by other organlsatlons and funding bodles. Our value8 contlnue to run 8s a
'gold8n thread, through the organisalion of.. Dignity and Respect, Empowerment. Hlgh Qualty, Cooperation and
Collaboration and Diverslty.
We have contlnued to 88e an Increase in demand on all our services wlth an Increase of 48% over the last 5
years. We have increased our $taff and volunteer team to meet the demand and we have $hown that we arg
both fi8xlble and reslllent In provldlng our servlce to ensure that everyone approaches us rec8iv8s a sgrvl¢e. It Is
also down to the dedication, passion and hard work of all who work in MKWA both as front-llne and behind the
scenes so that those who use our $8rvic8 r8celvg a high quality servl¢e. It Is a privilege to continu6 to serve the
city of Milton Keynes for over 45 years. Cllent and staff satisfaction levels remain hlgh and our participation In
professlonal nelworks. including the MK DA Partnership Board continu8S to b8 valued.
Across all our servic88 in 2023, including refuge, crisis service. fresh start (perpetrator programme), outreach,
and dispersed housing, w8 havo supported 2411 people affected by Domestic Abuse. We have also trained 360
prof6s$1onals, and 53 people attended survivor support groups and progr8mmgs. Our volunteers and trustees
contributed over 1500 hours to support tlM)s8 acc8ssing our services In partnershlp with our staff team of 50.

Flnanclal revlew
The Trustees have prepared the accounts in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Pracllce (SORP)
for Charities. The net income from all funds, after investment income, was £64,012 for the year. compared with
net exp8ndituré of {£46,884) in 2023. A detailed review of the Twst's financial position is shown in the Statement
of Flnanclal A¢tlvltles.
Reserves pollcy
The trustees have reviewed and established a new policy. The unrestricted funds not committed or Inv6sl8d in
tangible fixed assets (the free reserves) held by the Chanty should be be￿en three and six months of the
résources expended, which equates lo £250.000 and £500,000 in general funds. At this level, the management
ommlttee feels that they W￿ld be able to continue the current activities of the Charity in the event of a
significant drop In funding.11 would provide a timo frame In which it would be necessary to consld8r how th8
fundlng would be replaced or activlties changed. Free reserves now stand at about £490,620, which18 wlthln the
Trustees, policy rgnge. The Trustees expect that thls level wlll be malrrtalned In the future.
Rl•k managemont
The trustee's has considered the most appropriate policy for investing funds and has found that specialised
bank 8ccounts meet thelr requlrements. The trustse's conslder the retum on investments to be satisfactory in th8
currént econom1¢ cllmate.
The trustee's are responsible for tho management of buslness rlsks faced by the Charity and th1818 revlewed at
regular inlervals.
The syst8ms of Internal conlrol are d88ign8d to provlde reasonable, but not absolut8 88surance agalnst material
misstatement of loss. They Include:

The Trustees have In place a fomial risk management process to asses5 business risks and Implement rlsk
management strategies. This involves Identifwng the types of risks the Charity faces. prioritising them in tsrms
of potential impact and likelihood of occurrence, and identifying means of mitigating the risks. Detalled
considerations of buslness risks are delegated lo the Management Team. Business risks are Identif￿d.
assessed and controls established throughout Ihe y8ar. A formal review of the Charity's buslness risk
management process is und8rtak8n on a periodic basls.
The Trustees ensure that regular Ind8pondent Health and Safety revl8ws are carried out. As the majorlty of the
Charlty's funds are derlved from public bodlas, and as such are subject to Changes In local and national
government pollcy. this presents the most slgnffi¢ant financial risk factor. The Truste8s have accordingly
allocated contlngency funds by setting up a reserves policy and the policy is reviewed on a regular basis by the
Trustees.
Plans for futuro
We continue to ensur8 that W8 continually review our Business and Straleglc Planning so that It contlnues to
deilver our vision and values. We a150 Gonllnue lo r6vlew our services for any gaps In provlslon and s88lrrfJ how
we Can ￿Ver these in partnership with othor agencies Includlng Mllton Keynes City Council through joint pl8nnlng
and funding blds. We contlnue to revlew and develop our service based on the needs and feedback of thos8
who use our service. We are still playing an aclive roie Sn the Parlnership Board focusing on DA withln MK
8nsuring that DA Is both a focu8 and priority for those involved and In other networks in the city.

The members of MKWA appoint Trustees recommended by members of the Trustee Board at the AGM.
The Trustees contlnue to review thelr composltion and effecliven8ss. Thèrè Is a continuing need for Trustees
who reflect different cultures and experiences. The Trustees are actively seeking candidates who will meet
these requlrements.
Th8 company Is Ilmlt8d by guarantee. and no Trustee has a beneflclal Interest in th8 capltal of the Gharltable
company.
Tru8to0 Inductlon and tralnlng
New Trustees will undergo orfentstion equivalent to a day to brlef them on thèir legal obllgatkjns under Charlty
and Company Law, the content of Ihe Memorandum 8nd Articles ol A8sociatlon, th8 committ88 and decislon
making procèss, and the recent financlal performance of the Charity. During thelr vlslt they wlll be Introduced to
members of staff on duty and glven details of the stafflng structure. They wlll then be invited to the next Board
meeting vthere introductions are dèalt with al the beginning of the Meeting.
Organlmtlon
The Board of Tru8tee8 admlnlster the Charlty a3 a management ¢ommlttee and meat 10 tlmes a year as a
mlnlmum.
A Chief Exècutive is appointed by the Board to manage the day to day operation of the Charfty.
The Trustees are unpaid volunteers. The Board has 8ppointed a finance sub commlttee to admlnlster the day to
day runnlng and flnancial affalr8 of the Charity. The sub committ88 cornprlsés the Truste8S, the Chief Executive
and th8 Finance Manager. The Commlttee has its decisions ratlfied by the full Board.
Naw Trustees will undergo orlentatlon equlvalent to a day to brlef them on their18gal obligations under Charity
and Comp8ny Law, th8 contanl of the Memorandum and Articles of Association, the committ6e and dacl$lon

We believe that the charity's financial statements Should be prepared on a going concem basis on the
grounds that current and future sources of funding or support will be adequate for the charity's need8.
We al80 confimi our plans for future action(s) required to enable the charty to Continue as a going
concem are feasible. We have considered a period of bwelve months from the date of approval of the
financial statements. Vve believe that no further disclosures relating to the charty's ablllty to contlnue
as a going concern need to be made in the financial statements. We ar8 not aware of any materlal
uncertaintie8 or doubts about the ability of the charity to continue as a 'going concern, for tho

Assets and liabllities
The charity has satisfactory title to all assets and there are no liens or encumbrances on the charty's
assets, except for those that are disclosed in the notes to the financial statements.
We have recorded or disclosed, a8 appropriate, all liabilitie8, both actual and contingent and have
disclosed in the notes to the financial statements all guarantees that we have glven to third partles.

The method5, data and significant assumptions used by us in making accounting estimates. and their
related disclosures, are appropriate to achieve recognition, measurement and disclosure that is
reasonable in the context of the UK GAAP financial reporting framework, including the Statement of
Recommended Practice: Charities SORP (FRS102) (second edition - October 2019), issued by the
joint SORP making bDdy.

The charity has not granted any advances or credit facilities to, or made guarantees on behalf of,
directors or trustees other than those disclosed in the financial statements.

All claims in connection with litigation that have been. or are expected to be, received have been
properly accrued for and disclosed in the financial statements.

There is no ultlmate controlling party.

Related party relationships and transactions have been appropriately accounted for and dlsclosed in
the financial statements. We have disclosed to you all relevant infomation concernlng such

to comply with the requlrements of the Companies Act 2006, Charities Act 2011 or accounting
