The Harrow University of the Third Age Report of the Trustees for the year ended 30 September 2024 The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 30 September 2024. The truslee5 have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by CEwities.' Statement of Recommended Practic applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective l January 2019). OBJECTIVFS AND ACTIvrrIES Objectives and Aims The objectives of the charity are the advancement of education and, in particular, the education of older pei)ple and those who are retired from full time worK by aIl means, including associat¢d acttvities conducive to learning and personal development in Harrow and its surrounding locality. Significant activiti The organisation currently offers over 70 study and activity groLtps. Gup outings e aanged by members of the committee. which includes concerts, art galleries and holidays, Study groups fomi the central therne to the charity but all these activities give everyone the opportunity to learn and make new frien(Ls. ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charilable activitLes The trust has continued to benefit this year frorn sub5GriPtions received. This has enabled the tNst to continue supporting its objectives. FtNANCIAL REVIEW Reserves The trust is mainly dependent on subscriptions received from members. The charity catmot spend more money than it has in reserves. FufuRE PLANS We hope to continLLe encouraging more people to avail themselves of all we have to offer keeping costs down as rnuch as possible. STRucfuRE, GOVERNANCE AND IIIANAGEMENT Governing document The Charitable Tst is constituted by the Trust Deed (Constitution) Created when the Gharity was fomed on 2nd March 1992 as wnended on 28th September 1995, 24th April 1997, 6th October 1998 and 14th April 2005. A new cOnstition was adopled on 5th March 2013, and amended on 10th March 2015, 6th March 2018 and 5th March 2019. The entity )nstitutes an unincorporated charity. Recruitment and appointment of new trustees TSteeS are elected annually by the membership. Vacant positions are advertised in the Newsletter whxch is distributed to mcmbeTS Ihree times a year. Orpnisational structure The Harrow University of the Third Age is run by a management committee. The Study Group Co-ordinator assists all GtK)up Leaders and gives help to yone wishing to start a new group. The committee has overnll management duties. Induction and training of new trustees Interested parties are invited to meet with the incumbent holder of a particular position on the comrnittee. Treasurer, Membership Secretary. If they fecl they can fill that position they ore required to get a proposer and a seconder. Responsibilities and basis of report As the charity trustees of the Trust you a resp)nsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the r¢quirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act,). I report in respect of my examination of the Trusvs accounts carried out under Section 145 of the A¢t and in catrying out my examination I have followed all applicable D1CtionS given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5Xb) of the Act. dependent examiner's statement I have completed my examination. Financial Reporting Standard 102 The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland, and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statctncnts have been prepared under the historical cost convention. Income All incom¢ is recognised in the Statement of Financial A¢tivities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can b¢ measured reliably. Expenditure Liabilities are recognised a5 expenditu &8 soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the harity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been cl&qsified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the ¢ategory. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
