HURSTWOOD CHRISTIAN CHURCH TRUST
TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST MARCH, 2023
The Trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31st March, 2023.
REFERENCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS
Hurstwood Christian Church Trust is a registered charity ( No. 1008882).
The present trustees, and any past trustees who served during the period, are given on the foregoing statement of officers, professional advisors and registered office, together with the name of the administrator and external advisors.
The title to the property is held under a freehold in the name of the trustees of Hurstwood Christian Church.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
The charity is constituted as a trust and governed by its Trust Deed dated 19th February, 1992.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance of the charity. The total number of trustees shall be not less than three but may not exceed seven. New trustees are elected by the existing trustees and must assent to the doctrinal basis of the trust. The trustees meet regularly to manage the affairs of the charity.
Since the end of September 2021 the church has relied on lay preachers, many of whom belong to the church. There was also one voluntary part-time administrator who manages the day to day administration of the charity.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The objectives of the charity are the furtherance of the Christian Religion throughout the Hurstwood area and elsewhere, and the provision of general assistance where required.
The church maintains weekly Sunday morning services and the charity has provided over 50s meals as well as Sunday School for children and young people, a kids’ club and a weekly youth meeting. The charity also organises school assemblies and conferences for men and ladies, runs holiday clubs for primary school children and organises a monthly family games night. In addition, there are prayer meetings, bible studies, a mums’ and toddlers' group and the provision of a weekly tearoom.
The church activities are open for all to attend.
In planning the activities for the year the Trustees kept in mind the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit at their meetings and are satisfied that the charity's objects, and the activities it carries out in pursuit of those objects, as set out above, are for the public benefit.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
The focus of the charity's activities throughout 2022 and 2023 has remained the provision of a Sunday Service, Sunday School and Youth Club meetings in its own premises. Other media platforms such as zoom have continued to be used to further this. These enable the children and young people attending to learn more about the Bible and the Christian way of life and provide an opportunity for fellowship and social interaction with their peers. The church welcomes all children and young people regardless of personal background, gender or personal circumstances.
The charity also provides various other services including the following:-
-
regular play groups for pre-school children and their carers to provide an opportunity to learn and play together.
-
a tearoom to provide refreshments and a meeting place for social interaction.
In the year ended 31st March, 2023 the church, despite the difficulties faced by people due to the cost of living, has seen pleasing attendance and participation at each activity. The use of zoom and YouTube has enhanced and enabled access to activities when people could not attend in person.
RESERVES POLICY
All the funds are of an unrestricted nature and are available for use at the discretion of the trustees in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity.
Liquid funds have risen since last year. The aim is to build up reserves again, following higher expenditure in previous years on building alterations and the kitchen refurbishment. This will provide a sufficient buffer in order that the church can continue with its current activities in the event of a short term unexpected fall in income or unexpected additional expenditure.
