**Emergency Volunteer doctors across rural Devon delivering Enhanced Medical Care.**

Looking back at the past year, around the challenges of Covid-19, the charity has continued to support their volunteer doctors to respond to medical and trauma emergencies across Devonl and in doing so have tried to help alleviate some of the pressures on the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. We are enormously grateful for all the time the volunteer responders have dedicated to the charity in turbulent and busy times.

In 2021 we welcomed back Dr Anthony Golding-Cook, fully equipped to respond with thanks to NHS Charities Together funding. Tony is already busy in his response area, as well as fundraising for the charity with his Morris for Medics:100 Song Challenge.

It is great to have Tony, an original member back on the team, especially for the 30th Anniversary.

## **Fundraising Review 2021-2022**

The pandemic continued to be a challenge for the charity sector, but BASICS Devon fortunately, as a frontline charity, maintained some of their local support.

With a substantial Legacy donated and the NHS Charities Together funding, it was agreed that Trust and Foundation applications be held in the short term to focus on administration of Sage Accounts, ordering of equipment and new fundraising initiatives such as In Memory Of and Legacy Giving.

However, we were invited to apply for funding from the The League of Friends of Newton Abbot Hospitals, who donated an amazing £11,213.40

The Coop Local Community Fund presented us with a cheque for £3285.69 for training and education, even though we were not successful again this year for the local fund, a strong relationship remains.

Community fundraising remained slower than previous years, however local community groups and individuals have been very generous. Local community groups have chosen BASICS Devon as Charity of the Year and general donations have been received.

## **MAP of incidents……..**

We have also had the amazing support of Exeter Chiefs Foundation as one of their chosen charities, and attended a collection day last September.

## **BASICS Devon Annual Report 2021 - 2022 Emergency Volunteer doctors www.basics-devon.org.uk**

Local councils have shown loyalty again this year and donated towards equipment and volunteer support costs, therefore strengthening relationships.

Tony’s Morris for Medics;100 song challenge has given a steady income

raising well over £1,000.

We reached an additional audience yet again with The Big Give Christmas Challenge which raised £1,231.25, and had the continued support of Premier Communication Electronics, Holsworthy & District Lions Club and the Coop Depot in Plympton, Plymouth, to which we are very grateful.

The newsletter now has 62 subscribers. Social media following has increased by 11% on Facebook followers from 1511 June 2021 to 1683 May 2022. Twitter from 1725 to 1848, Instagram 223 followers and LinkedIn 48 connections and 83 followers on the Business page. The website has had 2537 visitors, 3% increase to 2020, 95% of which were new, 5% returning.

Individual Giving has increased to three regular donors donating monthly. We also had another large Legacy and In Memory Of (IMO) Giving is in the process of being promoted with the setup of Much-Loved tribute Fund page, which has now been built on our website, set to go live this year, together with a coordinated marketing plan. The media have supported our cause this year with the launch of the rapid response vehicle and our 30th Anniversary. We hope this continues to help raise awareness.

years.Funds of £66,188 will enable us to expand our existing specialist team to improve cover in the Western Devon and Plymouth area. It will fully equip and prepare additional volunteers physically and mentally to respond safely and effectively. Funding will provide a full response kit, including PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), Blue Lights installed in their vehicles and vital training courses which include Advanced Paediatric Life Support. Dr Anthony Golding-Cook and Dr Fionna Lowe are within these funds as well as our Plymouth Responders. It is an exciting project and impacts greatly on our local relationships.

## **NHS CHARITIES TOGETHER**

We were overwhelmed to be chosen as a delivery partner together with other community organisations to work collaboratively with Plymouth Hospitals Charity and NHS Charities Together over the next two

## **Objectives for 2022**

As a charity, we have seen increasing challenges in our volunteer’s time. In order to maintain active responding, there are many logistical challenges, such as replacing equipment, stocking drugs, driver training and vehicle inspections to name a few. We would like to reduce the administrative burden on our volunteer doctors in order to increase the time available for response work.

- Engage widely to Develop our **5-year vision** for the charity, undertake charity review and develop strategy to deliver this year vision.

- **Operations Support Officer** – Create a part-time post to support the operational side of the charity and reduce the administrative burden.

- **Response Vehicle** – Improve use of response car with increased volunteer opportunities. Look for clinicians who only want to do shifts
