A lot has changed over the last 12 months, we have seen a community come together to support each other and are trying our best to move forward to live a life without covid and remembering all those that are no longer with us. To everyone who has been personally affected by the virus I extend on behalf of Laurel Avenue Community Association our sincere sympathy and best wishes on moving forward.
I would like to start by saying a huge thank you to Claire our centre manager, the rest of the wonderful staff and volunteers who have worked hard over the last 12 months to make the community centre what it is. Also, to the Sherburn Road community, the good neighborliness and generosity and community spirit that has been demonstrated by the selfless volunteering to support individuals and families in a time of need.
It has been great to see the community re- open after covid and see the centre finally welcome back the Lunch Club, huge thanks to Kings Church for all the support to make this happen. It’s great to see our youth clubs back, and to see the centre thriving and welcoming all our wonderful groups, it was also a delight to welcome the Mayor of Durham to give out the awards at the LA Rising Stars show, huge thanks to the team for making this happen.
Now to mention our Centre manager Claire, everyone knows her commitment to not only the Centre but the local community, Claire works extremely hard 24/7 to make the community centre what it is, and we are so grateful for everything she does for us and wider community, from LACA management committee and the community thanks for everything, Claire. We don’t know where we would be without you.
The management committee has continued to meet through Zoom, it looks like soon we will meet face to face. The future is challenging, but moving forward with our staffing team, management committee and volunteers, our future is bright.
