The policy and general management of the affairs of the Club are directed by a Trustees Committee comprising the Trustees, the Joint General Managers (Ms Caroline Marshall and Mr Sam Panton) and their duties include attending meetings of the Trustees Committee.

Actlvltles and actlons undertaken by the Trustees and Management durlng the year 2022 to 2023 include:
Initiated a review of the Club's finances and members exercising behaviour. We concluded that with the
existing Pay per Visit pricing structure all rneMbe￿ would rbeed to exercAse 2 limes a week lo generate the
level of income lo support operational costs.
We ran a campaign called 'The Power of Two. based on the nationally recommended 150 minutes ol
exercise each week which would equate lo 2 sessions per member per week. The message did not produce
the response we hoped for.
Held a planning meeting resulting in a proposed change lo a subscripb.on based membershlp of monthly
payment by Direct Debil rather than the existing Pay per Visit which would produce a eonsislenl and
predictable Cash flow. Wnen this change was communicated lo the membership there Wds some resistance
by existing members. A comprom15e was reached with existing members allowed lo continue as PPV al an
increased rale per session. All other members would transfer to monthly DD with all new members only
offered monthly DD.
Migrated Sportsoft lour Customer Support Systoml lo a cloud ba$ed version to increase capability
enable DD functionalty lo be implemented on 01104123.

The Trustees believe that the financial priorities of BouThmouth Heart Club are '.
1. To reverse. or al least mlnimEe. the pattern over previous financial years of depletion of reserves due lo
shortfalls of ineome over expenditure wthin a 2 10 3 year timescale.
2. To safeguard ils medium and long-lenn ftjlure, in view of the commitments wthin the lease with University
Hospitals Dorset recently extended lo 2046,
3. To grow the membership of the Club through proven pathways of recruitment that attract indI￿dUalS who
recognise the importance and value of regular exercise lo themselves.
To achieve Ihe8e objectives our strategy is :_
1. To Implement a change in Mem￿rship payment structure from 1 sl April 2023 from pay per visit to monthly
direct debil with the aim ol prowding more eertain and regular incom8s such that the stsff costs of the Club may
be mel from these subscriptions wthin 2 10 3 years.
2. To conllnue lo maintain a designated, bul not restrictsd. fijnd which is in pl¥ee to cover the potential cost$ of
replacing exercise equipment, and any repairs to the structure of the Heart Club building which are anlicipaled lo
be necessary. Included in this fund is the cost of the lease extension %thi¢h is being written back lo reserves over
the period of the lease. The levels of these reserves and policies behind them are reviewed annually by the
Trustees ahead ol the Club's AGM. The Designated Fund p￿vIOUslY held for the development of Prevention has
been released lo General funds as this activity has been consolidated into business as usual. Likewise, the Fund
held for Parking Depgsils has been jud9ed to no longèr be required followng 8 communication lo members
affected offering them an opportunity lo claim any deposi15 ¢)wing.
3. To continue to maintain an undesignated General Fund lo help fund the day lo day operating costs ol the Club
and, in particular, lo provide the finaneial headroom that is required whilst we rèbuild ongoing incomes.
4. To use all resources available lo us lo promote the proven pathways for reeruiling membership, In particular
Cardiac Rehabilllalion and the Keep Wo11 Scheme.
6. To continue to build 0 good working rclatsonship with the E8t&tes thnd Finan¢¢ communities of University
Ho$pito1s Dorsel to ansure that they, and ourselves. are in a po¥ib'on lo ¢omply bwth the finanoal provisions of th¢
ease agreement.
The Trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is expose(l and are satisfied that processes and
procedures are in place lo miligale exposure to the major risks.

and Republic ol Ireland IFRS 1021 (effective 1 January 20191" The charity is a Public Benefit Entity as
defined by FRS 102.
The charity hos taken advantage ol the provisions in the SORP for tharilies applying FRS 102 Update
Bulletin 1 not to prepare a Statement of Cash Flows.
The financial slalemenls are prepared in sleding. which is the fvncts'onal currency ol the charity. Monetary
amounts In these financial slalements are rounded lo the nearest £.
The financial slalemenls hove been prepared under the historical cost ¢onvonlion. The principal accounting
policies adopted are sel out below.

Al the lime ol approving the financial slalemenls, the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charfty
has adequate resources lo continue in operational existence lor the foreseeable future. Thus the Trustees
continue lo adopt the going concem basis of accounting in preparing the finanaal slalemenls.

objectives unless the fund5 have been designated for other purposes.

Bournemouth Heart Club does not own thè eompleled building but has a lease for 25 years al a peppercorn
rent from September 1996 10 2021. In 2010 negotiations conduded lo extend the lease for a futher 25
years lo 2046. As part ol this agr8em8nl a capital Iransfar of £592.000 was made from the Club lo the Royal
Bournemouth and Chri31church Hospital NHS Trust as a payment in advance (index linked) lo cover the eosl
of the extension from 2021 to 2046. The cost of the lease in Tangible Fixed Assets relates to the cost of the
lease of the propefly tor ine benettt ol tne Llub trom 2u21 to 2U46. rhe Cost ol the lease therefore is being
wntten off In the twenty-five year penod trom 2027 to 2046. Items ol moveablè equipment 8nd fumishings are
capilalised and shown as part ol fixed assets of Bournemouth Heart Club.
1.7 Impalment offlxed assets
Al each reporting end dale, the charity reviews the carrying amounts of its tangible assets lo determine
whether there is any indication that those assets have suffered an impaimenl loss. If any such ind￿allOn
exists, the recoverable amount of the asset is eslimaled in order lo delemiine the extent of the impairment
