Objects - Aims.

The aims of the Community Centre are:

To promote, through its activities, the benefit of the inhabitants of Even Swindon and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating local authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to ensure the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objects of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants.

Review of the year 2022/2023

This year has been another challenging year, with such a small Committee we have put everything we have in keeping the Centre going for another year.

The first event Community Event was a ‘Summer Fayre’ held in August. We had a range of stalls selling various items, some hand made. The day was one of the hottest in august, it was well attended.

The Bar is still doing well and is still very popular for private parties.

Bingo is still taking place on a Thursday evening but is beginning to struggle as the numbers are falling. However we did have a special Bingo evening for Christmas and Easter. The Halloween party that was due to take place was unfortunately cancelled at the last minutes due to Covid.

There was a New Year’s Eve Party; it was enjoyed by all who attended.

September saw the departure of Rob our Caretaker; he left to take up a post with more hours. We now have a part time employee – ‘Katie’ who helps at functions etc.

We still have many of the groups that started when we reopened last year. Revolution Performing arts, a Choir and ‘Hartbeeps’, Chair exercise classes run by the Parish Council.

We now have a Prayer meeting Group on a Wednesday and a Sewing Group. We still have The Lace Group, The History Group, Dancing Classes, U3a Yoga Classes the Spiritualist Church and Little Bears – Toddler Group.

The Library is still operating from the building with a slight change to its opening times.

We are still used for private parties, wedding etc. and meetings.

Our aim for the future is as always to keep the Centre running as smoothly as possible however difficult it can be with such a small Committee. We would like to encourage people to use the Centre more and to be a focal point for the Community.

Thanks go to all that use the Centre, to the Committee for managing it, to staff for caring for it and to the volunteers who help and anyone else that is involved.
