Kingswood Heritage Museum Trust Annual General Meetlng October 9th, 2025, held at the Museum A Report from the Chalr of Trust Welcome everyone and thank you for attending the Annual Generdl Meeting this evening. This is my first AGM Report as Chair and you may find It a little different from previous report& One thing I was hearin8 all the tlme from vdunteers wa5 that they didn't know what was happening at the Museum. La( of communication will always be cited in every organisation and is probably true to a greater or lesser extent. To overcome thi51 have been prrxlucing a monthty update for all voluntsers and l intend attathing the updates from January to September to this report for reference. Consequerrtly the report will draw out s(xne of the most Important elements over the past year induding notsble suC(￿SeS and areas for further development. vo￿nteerS We have 39 registered volunteers at the moment. I have tried to acknowledge the a)ntributlon of individual volunteers In the monthly reports 50 will not name Indlv5duals now. The ojratorial team has continued to present the Collertion to a very hlgh standard whether as displays of artefacts, photographs, interactive dlsplays or images aC￿sSed through our LDmputers. The model railway and foid a)ntinue to be much appredated by visitors. As always the café provides welcome refreshments to visitors at openlng tlmes and also to all who (x)me to the varled programme of events that has been available this year. Not only does the café provide extremely valuable income for the Museum but of course tt Is there for all volunteers during work days and for all those using our workshops and spaces: Tools for Self R•llancÉ,' Ladies DIY,. Men in Sheds,'Knitters and Natters and The Douglas aub. Refreshments provide the opportunlty for soaal engagement before our very successful Talks Programme and forth05e who visit in groups suth as ca homes. Thank you to all kitthen staff and those who ensure supplies of milk and other basic supplles are always there. We carried out a sk1115 audit which Identified the va¥( array of talent amongst volunteers but tt has yet to help Sn the sea￿h for legal expertlse althou8h t>ur searth for a newtreasurer wa5 sucossful. Admlnlstratlon We are fortunate to have an excellent admlnistratlve team and the backroom tasks do not always re￿1ve credit for the very time<onsurning work necessary forthe smooth rnnning ofthe Trust. Whether following up costs for building malntenance, preparing rotas or answering phones and emalls, the work Is constant. The work of the Building Manager Is simllarly a11-consumi￿ partly ber3U5e of the physlcal work invofved but also because of the inevitable paperwork. We have had a monthly sesslon over the past year led by one of our Joint Admlni5trator5 looklng at foorfall and how to increase number of visitors. Vlsitor nurnbers have frequently been disappolrting this year for no obvious reason as feedbad¢ vla our questionnalre and visitors book is conslstentjy good. The Treasurer and Joint Admlnlstrator have worked hard to adjust the instsllation of a new card payment system arKI this now seems to be worklng well. Marketl We had hoped to Invest in a new website this year but this didn't happen and consequently new leafiets which were to be produced to complement the website design didn't happen either. We ￿11 try to progress this project as an objectlve In the new Forward Plan whith is currently belng w(Yked on. 5oaal media continues to provide excellent marketing forthe Museum as does our profile in local paper5 Ilke the Kingswood / Hanham Volce. ft has been important to have good marketing this year as the number of events held at the Museum has increased greatly. These have spanned our whole season from Candle Making for Mothers. Day to our always ex￿lIent Winter Fair. A new event was the -murder

at the Museum- mystery whlch attracted 48 theatr￿8Oers.. There have been chlldren's actlvltles during school breaks and guided tours are being intrOdU￿d whith. if succe55ful, will be held regularly. Marketing and events help to promote our Museum and critically ralse funds. Surtalnablllty Durlng the past year the Museum's major commltrnent to sustalnable energy has been through progrnmme to Install solar panel& Grants from WECA and Kngswood Town Counal have contributed a . rnajor part of the cA)sts but plannlng appllcatlons continue to slow the process down. The library on the mezzanine floor is very muth in need of heatlng and although a heat pump system Is 5UStainable and effective. the cost yet a8ain may have to come from our reserrfe5. Partnershlp workln8 The Museum continues to work well wlthln a partnership of heritage organisation& We are represented at the South Gloucestershire Museums Group, attended by our Herltage Offi￿r and by the Coundl's Heritage Champlon. There 15 a Warrnley Group comprlslng KHMT, The Clock Tower, Friends of Wllllarn Champlorfs Garden and SGC whlth rneets to try to crx>rdinate the work and asplrations of the three Warniley 8roups to ralse the profile of the whole slte. Some progress is now beSng made. There has been exc£llent partnershlp worklng wlth the Klngswood Park Project this year, the Museum belng asked to create and store an archive to record and ￿letsrate the Park's Importan￿ to Kin8SW¢)od. Slmilarlythere was very successful partnershlp with Kings Chase Shopplng Centre. To ￿lebrate 50 years since the Ceiitre opened, the Museum created and displayed a photographic record whlch was displayed at the Centre. We contlnue to work well with local organlsatlons suth as sthools and youth groups and thelr positive feedback Is appreclatsd. Fundralskn8 As well as securin8 funds for the sustainability agenda the Museum has beneffted trom grants to enhan￿ technol(w in many way5. There are new computers for our visitors, use to access the photo arthive and a generous donation has made It posslble to buy a microphone system to Improve sound at the monthly talks. Funding for the restoration of The Tower remalns undear. The appllcatlon Is still wfth Heritage Lottery and we hope for developments. Meanwhile the cost of survey5, including essentials such as sraffoldin& continues to escalate. Working wlth SGC on the extension of our lease has been slow but we must pursue it steadfastly over corning months, partly to ensure our opaclty to fundraise is not compromised. We thank the Friends of the Museum for their flnancial suppcrt over the past year. athieved through a dedicated team and programme of events. Thi5 report would not be complete without acknowledglng that the most enjoyable event thls year was the celebration of 30 years since Kingswood Heritage Museum was established in the museum bulldi The f￿5 in June was on the contributlon of volunteers and it was wonderful to see so many volunteers, past and present. enJoyin8 a cheese and wine evening on what wès one of the hottest days of the summer. An amazing video was compiled, congratulating the Museum. with contributors as varied as Stephen Merchant, Mary Beard and The Wurzels. A beautiful Pearl Rose wa5 planted at the front of the bulldlng. Finally, we received full Arts Council AcuedStation in 2017 but as yet have not heard when we will be Invlted to apply for Re-AccredTtatlon. We ltr)k to 2025-26 as a year of further success and no doubt more thallenge. Lynda Blackwell, Chair of KHMf. October 2025.
