ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 5[th] APRIL 2021

The Trustees

The trustees are (1) Paul Vivian Mullard, a solicitor (2) John Beard, a business adviser (3) Alun John Davies an engineer retired, (4) Dr Debra Malpass, Director of Knowledge & Insight, British Psychological Society and (5) Jacqueline O’Hanlon Director of Education (RSC).

The Committee

The committee consists of the trustees and Venerable Rabgyay Lodro, a monk and religious teacher, Ms Tshering Choedon, a translator and Simon Romer, a facilitator.

The Spiritual Director

His Eminence the Twelfth Tai Situpa is the Spiritual Director.

The Objects of the Charity

1. To advance the Buddhist religion in particular but not exclusively, in accordance with the tenets and doctrines of the Karma Kagyu School of Buddhism;

1. To advance education in accordance with the traditions of Buddhism; to relieve persons in need in accordance with Buddhist practices.

The Activities of the Charity During the Year

1. To provide facilities for regular Buddhist prayers, meditation and services for both the resident community and others of all faiths or no faith. This is very beneficial for the alleviation of stress and the development of compassion and goodwill and understanding between different faiths;

2. To provide a permanent centre for the support of a resident community at Nos. 39, 41 and 42 Carlyle Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B16 for the purposes of promoting and assisting the activities set out in the previous paragraph;

3. To sponsor eminent Buddhist teachers to visit Birmingham Karma Ling to give religious instruction;

4. To publish Buddhist texts and to provide tuition in the study of the texts and to provide instruction in Buddhist philosophy and practice;

5. To provide educational resources for schools and colleges for sstudents of comparative religion through visits to Birmingham Karma Ling and by providing speakers to go out to educational institutions and other interested organisations;

6. To continue the established and widely supported study of spoken and written Tibetan language which has been a successful part of more advanced studies.

7. Representatives of Birmingham Karma Ling are working with interfaith organisations and making a significant contribution to goodwill between different faiths and social cohesion.

8. Dr Debra Malpass and Jacqueline O’Hanlon accepted our invitation to become trustees of Birmingham Karma Ling.

9. The activities of the charity were severely curtailed by restrictions surrounding the pandemic.

Accounting Policy

The treasurer is Alun John Davies, a trustee, who has kept the books of the charity with the assistance of Simon Romer, Birmingham Karma Ling Facilitator.

1. The shop at Birmingham Karma Ling only distributes Buddhist items and has no non-charitable trading activity;

2. The fixed assets continue to be given historic valuations without taking account of appreciation or depreciation.

-1 CHARITY COMMISSION FOR ENGLANO AND WALIS Independent examiner's report on the accounts Section A Independent Examiner's Report Report to the trusteesl members of BIRMINGHAM KARMA LING On accounts for the year ended 5th April 2021 Charity no (If any) 1006450 Set out on pages 1and2 I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity ("the Trust.) for the year ended 0510412021. Responsibilities and basis of report As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 I'lhe Act"}. I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Acl and in carrying oul my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent examiner's ststement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come lo my attention in connection with the examination (other than that disclosed below ') which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect.. the accounting records were not kept in accordan￿ with section 130 of the Charities Act., or the accounts did not accord with the accounting records,. or the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities {Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement thal the accounts give a 'true and fair, view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
