oversees the grant applications that air not part of the designated fund, makes the awards, and reports back i'egulai'ly to

Iii September 2023 the Board designated funds to support two BSH fellows to Work, part time, foi. a yeai. on AI pi'ojects
specifically aligned with clinical haematology.
At the end of the year £270,106 worth of scientific grants had been awarded compared wÈth £ l 01,995 in 2023 (see Note
6). A total of108 grants were awarded compared with 76 in 2023. With tiavel restsiclions being eased now, mol'e traveL-
related gi'ants were able to be awarded, including Triore support towards Global Haeinatology. Dui'ing the ycar the EArly-
Stage Rescarcli (ESR) awai'ds w¢i'e reviewed after liavAn8 been put on hold: the figure disclosed in note 6 repi'esents a

BSH continued with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) - BSH "Researcher of the Year" awai'ds and two

and Special Intei"est Gi'oups (SIGS). The events were across a wide range of subjects, and across a vai'iety of audiences,
including students and trainees.

Tlie Society investinent in tlie Ixaining Management System (LMS) had b￿n postponed in 2022 due to staffmg and
technical issues. The first coutse on transfusion, designed by volunteeiy on tbe Fducation Committee, is due to go live
in late 2024.
Clinical Guideliiies
The Society's Guidelines Executive Committee and its four Task forces continued to pi'oduce high quality clinical
guideliiics which iiol only support the liaematological coiniiiunity in the UK, but are used woi'ldivide. The Guideliiies
Execiitive Coinmittee has also pi-ovided haeiiiatologi¢al advice to the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellcnce
(NICE) and olh¢T oi'ganisations, such as MSF.
The Guidelines Executive Comiiiitlee recruited four trainees, 01)e for each task force. The trainees have a one-year lenui'e
aiid are nientored by a task (oice member. They will participate in all tlie task foiee tasks, reviewing widelines, pj'oposals
aiid participating iii guidelines writing groups. This lias been highly successful, and tl)e Society have reciuited the iiext

The Tiustees are satisfied with the group's results for the year which are sliown in the coiisolidated staten]ent of financial
activities and incoine and expenditure account on page 19. The Society has inCu￿ed no financial costs in any fundraising
activity. Neither did the Society engage any external fundraisers, nor did it recetve any cojnplaints in respect of its
fundraising activities.
The Finance, Audit and Risk Cominittee Inonitors all financial aspects of the Society including its trading aim and the

coiilinues to appear in the top quartile of haematology journals. The slHaeiii is now iii its third yeai. and ¢ontinDes to
grow, with royalties of £76,839 being paid to the Charily iii the year, in relation to the Joui'nal year ended De¢eniba' 2023.

prepared for the coIning financial year will carefully consider the control of outgoing expeiiditw'e to be in line

In the application of these accounting policies, the Trustees are iEquired to make Judg￿￿entS, estiinates and

Estimates and judgements are continually evaluated and are based on historical expeiience and other factoi's,
including expectations of fijture events that are believed to be reasonable under the circumstaiices. Although

Depi'eciation.. The use￿1 economic lives of tangible fixed assets are based on mxnagement's judgcinent and

used lo calculate depreciation, that chai'ge is adjusted retrospectively. Altbough tangible fixed assets are

operatiiig results. Historically, no Clianges have beei) required.
In the view of the Twstees, no assumplions eonceriiiiig the future or estimation uncertainty affecting assets or
liabilities at the balance sheet date are likely to result in a material adjustnieiit to their canying amounts in the
next financial year.

All income is recognised wlien the criteria of entitlem¢n4 measuretnent and pi'obability of receipt have been
satisfied.
