Aiithual Scientifie Meetiiig (ASM)
The 2022 BSH ASM was held as a hybi'id ￿eetIng fiDTn Mancliesloi. Central froin 2-5 April, with the Pitfalls s¢ssions on
Saturday l April. This was ai)othei' successful ]neetiiig with 1,535 delegates (1,057 attended in person and 478 virtually).
R6gistration tremained open after the Ineeting to allow delegates who tnis&ed the live meeting to view the On Demand
content libi'aiy, which was available until July 2022. The ASM coTrttibuted to Ilie subsidiaiy InakÈng a profst of £155,175
for the year.
In spring 2022 BSH began a tender process for th¢ PCO contract, as exercise in good practice, aTLd CPI was awarded
the contract for a thi'ee-year pei'iod with a on¢-year break clause.
Education and owareness
Overall, tl)e BSH $pent £1,134,L175 on education and awai'tness activities compared with £992,693 in 2021. Durillg tlie
year the Society contributed £5,000 as sponsorship of the Annual Sickle Cell & T]ialassaemia (ASCAT) event (2021.,
£29,167) as well as sponsoring tbe RCPath Suininer School witl) £1,500 (2021.. £1,500). Tlie pandemic eontlllued to
dictate tl)8t educatio￿81 events be deliveyed Vlliually. The Society l)a8 invested £237,552 iii the BSH website duritig the

BSH provides the BJH¢7eFlI to all ￿11 and fiill (reduced) members at a cost to the Society of £144,918 (2021.. £137,993),
BJHoeiii is co-owned by the Society and the publishei. Wiley. The Society and Wiley also co-own an open access joumal,
&JHueiN, which has enabled the publicBtion of additional quality inateiial as a valuable overflow fi'om BJHaEin,' the
Society received £51,920 in l'oyalties fro￿ aJHueni dui'ing the year.

The Society ran 3 facc-lo-face and 6 Vlltual education events throughoutthe year, via its Education Committee and Special
InteiESt Groups (SIGS). The events wei'e aci'oss a wide iBnge of subje¢t5, and a¢ros5 a variety of audiences, ll)cluding
students and trainees.

I'he Education Team (staff and volunteers), via a system of sub-edxtoi's, ensure tbat the website is up to date. The
Committee has appix>vcd a nu]nbcr of new case reports and haeillatology Emages for publication on the site. The
Committee has al80 wi'ittcn a number of MCQS based on recently published BSH guidelines and good pi'actice papers
which have been addcd to thc quc5tion bat)k on tlie website. The review of all educational material published is ongoing.
The Society invested £3,790 in a new LeaTning Management System (LMS). Et was intcnded for thc r￿St COUT5e on
tralis￿s1On, designed by volunteers on the Education Cot))mittee, to go live in spring 2022. Howev6r, due to technical
issues, the launch was postponed lo 2023.

In response to the changing circ￿MStanceS caused by the pandemic, the project continued into late 2021 alld was reviewed

Iluwii) whicb was £1,144,432 (2021.. £1,398,034). Dui'ing the year, tlie impact factor of the BJHaein was 8.615- it
Cont￿uc5 to appear io the top quartilc of ha¢matology jounmls. The eJHaeM is now in its second year alld continues to
grow, with royalties of £51,920 b¢ing paid in rtlatiott to the year ended December 2021.
The Society continues to monitor the Joumal fU￿n¢eS and the fore¢ast for this year r¢mains conservative.
The succrss of the hybi'id ASM in April 2022 piDduced £1,175,034 of total Èncome.
Income from membership subscriptions was £233,868 (2021.. £215.165). witlk an ll)crease in Subs￿]ption i?IBs being
irnpl¢mented in January 2022. There were 2,913 active members at the year-elid which represents a net it]CTease of 149
from the previous y¢ar (2,764).
ivestment incoine was £52.465 (2021.. £56,668) reflecting both the defensive strategy wilhsn one of the investment
portfolios as well as th¢ red￿CtiOn in m￿ket p¢i"fonnances as a wliole. The Society shows divideiids iriiivested in the

Evely quartei. the FARC reviews Inanageinent accounts, budgets, and 24 month cash projections. The budgets
prepared for the coming financial year will carefully consfftder the control of outgoing expenditure to be in lÉne
