However, she was able to provide support earlier in the year in all the above areas remotely on-line while in the UK.

Volunteers give assistance with a sponsorship programme and with managing finances.

Other trustees and supporters would usually visit the Homes but have not done so this year.

Section D                      Achievements and performance

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

Accommodation and nutrition were provided for 30 children in two separate houses. The children were supported through the educational system, some to further education and training to enable them to seek suitable employment.

The community based educational assistance programme was continued and supported 24 college students, 5 high school students and 2 elementary school students. 10 of the college students graduated during the year enabling them to seek appropriate employment.

Two older residents were supported in living independently.

Face-to-face teaching started again during the year but with restrictions on classes. As there was limited face-to-face teaching because of the corona virus pandemic, all the children and students were provided with extra support in their education throughout the year, with help from staff and exresident volunteers in accessing online teaching and completing modular learning tasks. An Education Co-ordinator was appointed during the year to help monitor and give extra help to residents and students in the community. The Overseas Volunteer also provided extra online tuition and support for residents from the UK earlier in the year and was able to return to the Home in September for three months.

## **Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves**

The aim of the trustees is to keep a minimum of at least three months’ reserve funds in the Philippines and also at least three months’ reserve funds in the UK to meet ongoing needs of the Homes and any unforeseen contingencies. The reserve at the end of the year in the UK was £216,442 which was equivalent to over 24 months’ reserves.

## **Details of any funds materially in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

The principal source of funds is gifts from individuals and churches. Funds are also provided from occasional legacies which provide welcome amounts of extra income.

97% of expenditure was spent on the direct support of the Children’s Homes in the Philippines.

Reserves are held in current and deposit accounts in UK banks and building societies that are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). Since the end of the year some funds have been moved into other interest earning accounts so no one account exceeds that covered by the FSCS, and they are also able to earn interest. Sufficient funds are kept in readily accessible accounts to cover the reserves policy.
