Treasurers Report BLHS 2025
SHOP
We have again had an eventlulyear, with moniesf rom thevast numbersof donated itemsthatwe have from t
shop, and sell to our many customers. We never quite know what's comingin and going out.1 We banked £
£ 13,105.06 the ca5htakings18nd meetings moneyland Sum uplcard machine) £ 8,005.72 as so many more
customers use cards now. A grand total of the years takings is £.21110.78
We have lost ihe trade at the Mercaniile Flea markets in December 2023 which was a shame as a good littte
trade. lantook some cameras down to Paikers inwoolston injune 2025 and made £150.00 that day. We have
also had a few new incoming placesfrom auction houses Mainlywessex Auction Rooms andthe Pump Rcxjm
swanmore.we have made allthe enquiri&8torsellingon Ebaywithtwoof our members sowaitingtoget crackj.rg
on this. All outlets are useful.
Our Charityshop keeps us afloat but takings thisyeai are very low especiallythrough the summei months. We
have managed to keep trade going with the shop openings but our team of volunteers have been depleted
considerably.we would welcome any helpers end volunteers- even a slot once a week could help sort clothes
and keep the custorners happy.
As lan has mentioned we have had a few markets through the year. in the Bitterne Precinct which is good and
keeps us rsoticed. It's always amazingthe amount of people that don't know where our shop isl The markets
keep 8 small amount of money ticking over.
We continue to use the East London Textiles (known to the shop as IELT) tyjt they pay such poor return on huge
amounts ol clothing, it seems a crime to let itgo. We onlyget 05p a kilo atpresent and so the overall amountfor
ourtinancialyear isonly£40.78. We need to look at other companies. Itried the clothingbank here up the road
in Bitterne, but it only paid £3 fortwo bags ot clothes, which is hardly anything.
The World of Books is our recycled books and at present EOY figuresare£353.10. Again,we get pittancefor the
collection reallyandthe company h8s gone paperless, so I'm really not happy withthis as I feelit's not correcL
We had a letterfromthem to saythe rates of collection isreducingfrom 4p a kiloto 2p, as from February2025.1
know lan did look into another company but only provided sacks forthe books which would have got crushed
easily. At least with the World of Books (now known as shopia80I they are collected in black sturdy boxes.
We havestarted sellinga few bitson Vintagecash Cow and on myrecords Bt present we havetaken£140 (with
a little more in the 24125 accounts.) Jill Abrahams started the ball rolling. and it's a mixture of items. but not
breakable. I feel that they don't give the real value but it helps clear items, like brassware, broken jewellery,
watches and old cameras. We arejustthinkingabout tryingvinted as it seemstosell clothesand allsorts. Kevin
Jenks. on our committee. is willing to wve it a go.
We are thankfulfor SteveAdamssellingour books, items and otherbits connected withthe Heritage Centre as
he uses Stripe, and Easy Fundraising. At presentfor24125 issmallamountsfor sellingthe items but soon rn8kes
good little source of income. It gathers to is £522.27 with this set ot companies. I know he deals with marN
widespread addresses and even abroad occasionally.
We siarted renting one of our new containers behind the shop in the Community Cornef to our Bitterne Men's
ShedGroupat 8 minimal rent8S Its onlyhalf the Container, as mentioned by lan. We feelthatthisis a Commurmty
Project and the Soton Council have pushed them into a corner since building th8 naw houses, replacing tl
Methodist Church in Whites Road.Theystartedon 2nd February2024.
MONTHLY MEETINGS
As lan has mentioned we have had some superb speakers this financial year and its rewaTdinEwhen we S￿ a

subjects. We are lucty to have thisfacility and I do to tryto help Steve get an up-to-date notice of meetings. We
havetaken £OOO,OOfor ALLthese meetings includingthe doortakings. refreshments, book sales. pampletsand
sometimes photos, pics and of course the raffle. Thank you to all that come along. bring raff le gifts and support
us in manyways.

On our Guest Night I helped lan. as we stilldon't have a secretary, gave us a chance to welcome so many local
businesses. our regularspeakersand our sponsors forour aifverts inthe magazine. Even our printerjohn Buttler
came, thank you to everyone attending. Thank you too for 811 the rnembers that have sUPPOrted all these

come andsupportthem and thewhole Society-
OUR OWGOING BILLS
The utilitiesbillsarefrighteningas Rent. Raies.Waterandbasic livinghas increased so much.ouf Electric, Ga&
Waterand Ftat Electric have Bmassedto £ 4054, . We still haveto pay overall insurarbce £920.49which I did try
to change last yearwith the A-plan insurance at Eastleigh, and got a slightly better deal than the year before.
I have just decided to try to change the electric supply and have changed the main electric to Octopus, so we
see how the charges have halved.
On finishingthis report. I would liketo thank allwho helped in manyways.we need to encourage more helpers,
members. f riends and the wider public to join us. My thanks go to Kate Martin and Pam West for their help.
I would like the have the opportunity to help out with the many tasks with the society, and really would like to
stand down from the Treasurer. We are hoping Katie Dyerwillt8ke overthe post, and ease her intothe postiti
as there is many parts to the 'treasury' position
Pleasethink about our thoughts about whatour societymight do for thefuture. We can't stay at 231 for ever8S
its getting in such a state and we will need a great deal of help if we ever move.
