A Brief History of the Band
Forming in September 2011. Ebbw Valley Brass was bom fO￿oWIng the rr￿r
of Cwm Town Band and Ebb* Vale TÉM) Band.
Both of the fom*r bants exrErienced low p)ints in recent history following a
decline in player number5 aTrJ gerseral interesL Imth the tsvo bands being in
dose proxinyty. the Committees openty exwe5sed a desire to work together in
order to ensu￿ a sustsinable futtjre for brass banding in the Ebbw Valley and
ensure that the hentage of MUS￿ is mintained and developed. Ebbw Valley
Brass was tM)ffl. with a ne•V kMJo iJJnmiss1on￿ and dewgned to reflecl the
band's new thinktng and Klentity.
Under the leadership of the band's Music21 Director, the band has buitt strong
f(KJndations on which to build a robust organi5ation that caters for everyone. The
PTiWQry fTh￿S is to Wofkwith the COTrwnunty and develop these links to delbver
wide range of (x)n(Ets and in(xease the irrw of brass banding.
barnl has experienced considerable deveh)pment in a short space 0fti￿￿.
The band won over 35 trophies in its first year of competing and o)ntinued the
high levels of with Welsh League ￿lon 2 ChampK)ns (2015) and
Ish Regwal SectK)n 2 ChampK)ns (2015} being added to the list of
achievements. The band ach￿ed a historic trtple of Natsonal Final tiues by
winning Section 4 in 2013, Se(#ion 3 in 2014 and Section 2 in 2015. The band is
the first Welsh ouffit to ¢￿￿te the triple in progressive sections in (x)nsecutive
year5. In addition to thts, the band won the Best Instrumentalist Proe at each of
the three fu￿LS duri￿ the b"mes&- an incredible feat for any band.

contests. In Novem1￿ 2019. rt ￿IeVed the runners-up WSitM)n at the South
East Vvales Brass Band Ass(￿la￿￿'S Autumn Festival. in the Champh)nship
| Section. under the direclKfyn of guest Conductor, NwJel Seaman. The band then
represented Wales at the Nalional Brass Band ChampÈonships of Great Britain
for the second bme in the Chamwnship S￿￿]0￿. Thi5 (x)ntest featured a retum
to the ctty of Swansea; the venue was staged in the contemporary building ofthe
Great Hall at the unive￿ty. The activities of the band were thereafter put on-hold
until fijrther noke. due to the sudden coronavinjs pandemic outbreak and
national Icekdu4vn •￿ICh affecbj all bands throughout the UK The band has not
rehearsed sift￿ March 2020. ah)ng wth nwjst other brass bands thated in
Great Bfitain and Ireland. The barKI gradudty retumed to playing again in May
