Structure, governance and management

The Trust is a registered charity, number 1003520, and is constituted under a Trust Deed dated 23 October 1990.

The Trustees are selected from the membership of Oxford 144 Round Table.

The charity is managed by its members, who meet 4 times per year. There were 11 (2023: 10) members at 31st March 2024.

Objects

The objects of the charity according to its Trust Deed are:

Means to achieve the objectives for the public benefit

The charity raises finance from fundraising events during the year. The charity received income from these sources of £227,527 (2023: £213,363) and after fundraising costs of £194,504 (2023: £139,875) the charity’s funds increased by £33,023 (2023: £73,488). The charity gave donations of £35,281 (2023: £30,907), spent £180 (2023: £175) on administration costs and received £29 in interest resulting in a (deficit)/surplus of £(2,409) (2023: £42,406), which was (deducted from)/added to reserves. The charity has a grant-making policy of giving to deserving causes in accordance with its objects, in particular to those in the Oxfordshire area.

Financial review

At 31st March 2024 the charity held reserves of £162,068 (2023: £164,477). The Trustees consider that a reserve of at least £125,000 (2023: £150,000) should be held for unforeseen expenditures on its fundraising activities. It is the charity’s aim to give as much as possible for charitable purposes.

Trustees’ responsibilities

Charity law requires the Trustees to prepare accounts for each financial period which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity as at the end of the financial period and of the surplus or deficit of the charity for that period. In preparing those accounts the Trustees are required to:

The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose at any time the true financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Independent examiner’s report to the Trustees of

Oxford Round Table Charitable Trust

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31st March 2024 which are set out on pages 4 to 7.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiners statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

  3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Notes to the Accounts for the year ended 31[st] March 2024

1. Accounting Policies

The following accounting policies have been used consistently in dealing with items which are considered material in relation to the charity’s accounts.

a) Basis of preparation

The accounts have been prepared in accordance with ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities’: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued in October 2019, the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.

The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention with items recognised at cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant note to these accounts.

The Trustees consider there to be no uncertainties in applying the going concern basis to these accounts.

Oxford Round Table Charitable Trust meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102.

b) Fund Accounting

Unrestricted funds consist of a general fund which the Trustees may use for the furtherance of the objects of the charity, at their discretion.

c) Income

Income is recognised when the charity has entitlement to the income, receipt is probable and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.

d) Donations

Donations are considered and approved regularly. Donations are shown in the accounts when payable.

e) Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably.

2. Trustees Remuneration

No remuneration was paid or expenses reimbursed to the Trustees during the current or preceding year.
