Trustees Report

And so we come to the end of another year, they seem to go faster all the time.

I am proud to thank our tremendous and innovative committee for yet another years’ hard work, the continued support of the Parish Council as ever, and the welcome addition of another committee member in Marcia Filer. Regrettably, we lost the services of Lance Binning who had been a regular committee member for many years, who felt the need to stand down this year. Thanks for everything Lance, we miss you.

The hall has required an increasing level of maintenance this year, whilst at the same time, we have strived to improve it and what it offers to local people. It is never an easy task to judge the various priorities against each other whilst continuing to hit high standards of care and repair.

We had to replace the windows on the North side of the main hall this year, which was an expensive but necessary job and the new ones look great. We have also upgraded the heating system so that the hall is now in zones, which can be controlled independently. Energy saving is uppermost in everyone’s mind at the moment and we are no different. The corridor floor was also replaced during the year.

We have re-vamped the website and initiated a new booking system within the website called Hallmaster. This enables bookings to be made on line and helps our booking Secretary a lot. It also allows for the heating to be applied remotely when necessary to a particular zone, so that it is comfortable for users when they require it.

The film nights we have run are now a feature of the offerings of the hall, we have a subcommittee looking after this, and new cinema equipment had been purchased which is in the process of being installed. The new screen should be with us in November, and we can’t wait for that! We are very excited about this.

Pressing things to do include a complete update of the toilets, and we are working on that now. Also we want to refresh the kitchen with new crockery, and other utensils. This is also a work in progress.

There is a national accreditation scheme for halls called Hallmark, which has three levels to it. Attaining accreditation in these areas assists with possible funding activities etc and allows others to see and assess what level of facilities and standards the hall has reached. This is something that the committee is keen to progress going forward as we further develop the hall for the community and attract more people to it.
