THE KITTY AND DANIEL NABARRO CHARITABLE TRUST
Report of the Trustees Year Ended 31 March 2023
Trust’s Objectives
The objectives of the Trust are that of the relief of poverty, the advancement of education, the advancement of medicine and any other purposes which are exclusively charitable according to the Laws of England and Wales.
Trust’s Activities
In consultation with trustees the following changes were undertaken:
-
The Kitty and Daniel Nabarro Charitable Trust fund was moved from Black Rock Investment company to UBS.
-
The bank mandate was updated.
During this year trustees of the Charitable Trust decided to give their full support to the child mental health awareness charity Nip in the Bud, which is searching for new sources of funding to support its continually growing programme of free resources, all accessible online.
Following the Covid pandemic, 1 in 5 children aged 5 to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem in July 2021, a huge increase from 1 in 9 children in 2017. There have been long waiting lists for CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
Nip in the Bud has responded to this need by producing a large amount of expert evidence-based information films and fact sheets and Real-Life Experience films. The Nip in the Bud website has grown from six films in November 2017 to 80 films with many other supporting resources and signposting to sources of help on the Where to get Help page.
Grants given during the year totaled £68,000 (2022: £52,450).
Reserves
The Trustees provide longer-term funding for a limited selection of appropriate causes which they believe fit the profile of the Trust.
Trustees’ Responsibilities
The Charities Act and the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations require the Trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year. In preparing these accounts, the Trustees are encouraged to follow the recommendations outlined in Statement of Recommended Practice, Accounting by Charities Act 2011.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Trust and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 as amended by the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for keeping a record of assets and liabilities of the Trust.

THE KITTY AND DANIEL NABARRO CHARITABLE TRUST
Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees
I report on the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31 March 2023.
This report is made solely to the charity's trustees, as a body, in accordance with Part 4 of the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. My work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity's trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an Independent Examiner's Report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity's trustees as a body, for my work or for this report.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements. They consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) but that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the financial statements under section 145 of the Act;
-
follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act; and
-
state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general directions given by The Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the financial statements present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
-
accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records: or
-
the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a “true and fair view” which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
