We have continued to provide a good programme for all sections and this is reflected in our census figures.
Whilst, of course, there have been problems but in 2024 we made consistent progress as normal.

l. Sections- all sections are flourishing- in fact bursting at the seams due to a very active programme, run
by a dedicated and committed leadership team. We are under considerable pressure from parents wanting
their child to join and they are always surprised when we say we are full. We have some narnes from birthl
We recorded 170 members on this year's Scout census, 140 youth members + 30 adults. With 5 in the
Group sections the numbers are pretty consistent from year to year.
2. Leaders
Unfortunately, again, we have lost experienced leaders this year, for a variety of reasons.
In particular Dan Ashman , explorer scout leader, has stepped down. Dan has been ESL for 12 years and
done a brilliant job in running Phoenix and making it one of the best units in the Area. He will be greatly
missed.
Dan is still however remaining as a skills instructor for hill walking.
Marilyn Hendricksen has unfortunately had to relinquish her admin role, with cubs and beavers due to
illness
She did most of the admin for these sections and organised the waiting list- a considerable task.
Nikki Cole has taken over the waiting list and she is dealing with all enquires now
On the positive side, Alex Lantzos has returned to help with the troop, and Megan 0'8ryne from Dublin, is
helping with the Maple beavers whilst studying in Cardiff, and Lana Weston has become a beaver team
member.
In addition we have secured the help of several parents as occasional helpers so that the correct adult/child
ratio in beavers is maintained
We didn't think we would find a replacement ESL, but fortunately Andrew Davies, a very experienced
leader from Celts unit in Cregiau has taken on the role. We are very grateful to him for doing this as l am
sure the Unit will continue to flourish under his guidance
We are very grateful to every leader, as it is by their voluntary efforts that the Group is such a success.
With experienced leaders finishing, we welcome any offers of adult assistance.

3. Fund raisin
The 2024 fete was very successful raising over £1300 for the Group
th
In addition, the 8onfire night on 5 November, was well supported this year.
The Baseball & BBQ event in July, took place but the weather conditions were poor so it took the form of
an indoor cricket game in the hall.
We are very grateful to Julie Kahar as hall bookings secretary and she has been very busy. Since our new
website, the bookings have increased considerably, especially children's parties.
The week day bookings have continued and provide a good source of income for us
This year the Group Executive decided to charge £120 as the annual subscription, with a £10 rebate for
prompt payment. Though a considerable sum of money, especially for families with several children as
members, we are still one of the cheaper scout groups in the area. Some parents gave an additional
donation for which we are very grateful.
4. Buildin
rounds- The main activities this year were:
A survey of our lighting was carried out and in the summer all the main lighting units were replaced
with LEDS. Hopefully this will save us a considerable sum on our energy costs
The trees surroundirig the car park after 10 years, have been severely punned as they were getting
too large
The toilets were all repainted in August- they get a lot of wear & tearl
We are increasingly finding the Council parking a problem for us. With so few parking faci lities in
Pontcanna it gets jammed packed with cars on weekends causing us continual access problems
In the longer term, the hall is now 34 years old so fitments are failing and some more repainting is
due.
5. Minibus
The bus is running well and is getting good use on weekends etc . As the bus is now over 10
years old we discovered that to comply with recent legislation, a51 the tyres had to be replaced with new
ones even though the existing ones were only half worn- an expensive change for us
6. Website
The Group website, one of the few in Cardiff continues to attract a lot of interest- from
people wishing their children to join, offers of adult help with the sections and hall bookings.

As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the
accounts in accordan￿ with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out
under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I
have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 14515)(b) of the Act.
