Structure, Governance and Management

The charity is a trust created by a deed dated 23 January 1991 by Mrs P G Keeling who made a single payment donation under the Gift Aid Scheme in March 1991. The funds donated were invested in a portfolio of quoted shares and interest-bearing bank and building society accounts, the income from which was used to fund charitable distributions.

Mrs P G Keeling remained a trustee until 1 February 2014. Prior to her retirement the investment portfolio was liquidated, at her request, and the proceeds distributed to charitable institutions. Replacernent investments were purchased using funds donated under the Gift Aid Scheme by the present trustees who are the daughter and sons of Mrs P G Keeling and by the Hambledon Settlement, Isle of Man, of which they are beneficiaries. During the year to 5 April 2024 the portfolio of quoted investments was liquidated and, at the year end, the funds were held in accounts with SG Kleinwort Hambros.

The power of appointment of trustees vests in Mrs P G Keeling during her lifetime.

Objectives and Activities

The objectives of the charity are to make distributions of its income to established charitable institutions in order to assist their activities for the public benefit.

The trustees confirm they have had due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning future activities.

Achievements and Performance

During the year the trustees made distributions totalling £310,000 (2024: £194,000) to established charitable institutions, as set out on page 6.

Financial Review

The trustees’ policy is to preserve capital by retaining and reinvesting the proceeds from any income producing assets and to distribute each year the balance of income arising after provision for all known revenue expenses.

Accounting Statements

The accounts of the trustees for the year to 5 April 2025 comprise the statement of assets and liabilities at that date together with a receipts and payments account for the year and a schedule of charitable distributions.

There was an excess of receipts over payments of £74,590 (2024: £171,733), which when added to the cash funds brought forward resulted in cash funds at the end of the year of £324,598 (2024: £250,008).
