Clive Village Hall Chair’s Report (March 2023-February 2024)

What an amazing year 2023-24 has been! We ended the previous year with the hall closed while major refurbishment work on the main room continued. We reopened in May, in time to celebrate King Charles’ coronation. The final stage of our ‘action plan’ to transform the village hall was complete. The building has been completely renovated. It had taken nine years from the initial discussions at management committee meetings to final completion. As always a huge thank you to everyone who helped make it possible - the wonderful support of the community and Clive Parish Council; the hard work of the management committee and our architect, Richard Pidduck; and the financial backing of Shropshire Council, the National Lottery and in particular the Veolia Environmental Trust. And for this final stage, a big thank you to Steve Deer and his team for a job well done. It has been very pleasing to hear the many positive comments the remodelled village hall has received.

Since reopening, the hall has seen an increase in bookings and numbers attending events. It is always a pleasure to see the Village Hall busy providing the community with a warm, welcoming and inclusive venue for its activities. Alongside our well established activities, it has been lovely to welcome some new ones including Wine Tasting, Strictly Dancing. Pilates and a Children’s Dance Class. In particular, I must mention our very successful monthly Coffee Shop that does such a great job in bringing the community together.

With the building work complete, the committee is now turning their attention to providing improved resources within the hall. We are busy drawing up our wish list – a sound system including developing the hearing loop, a window blind, better acoustics, a screen …..

Finally, it is a challenge to continually find sufficient volunteers to support the day-today running of the hall – we are short of helpers on the management committee, our cleaning rota and at events. However, a big thank you to all those that have helped in so many ways of this last year, your support is very much appreciated.
