Matters Arising: None

Treasurer’s Report

The finance statement was circulated ahead of the meeting. The Treasurer explained that the accounts were still with the official scrutineer. As no questions were raised, the Accounts were accepted by the Group subject to any comments from the Scrutineer and this was proposed by Alan Thompson and seconded by Marta Whitehouse.

SECTION REPORTS

Beaver Leader’s Report

In the Beaver Report, circulated ahead of the meeting, Linda Steel (Fox) announced that Jasper and Emelia had all completed the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award (the highest available to Beavers) and outlined some of the many activities the Beavers had enjoyed. Scouting Spirit Certificates were going to Darcie and Zac.

Cub Leader’s Report

Jenn Hodge (Rama) referred to the Cub Report which had been circulated in advance, and highlighted some of the events planned for the coming year. As the entire Pack had done so well, Scouting Spirit certificates were not being awarded as it was not possible to single out any individuals.

Scout Leader’s Report

Again, the Leaders Report had been circulated beforehand. It was announced that certificates for Scouting Spirit were being awarded to Evie, Lyra, Will and Freddie.

Group Scout Leader's Report

Tim Burch began by thanking the uniformed team, Young Leaders, Group Executive, parents and other Occasional Helpers that have been involved with 2[nd] South Petherton over the past year. He congratulated the Leaders for running virtual meetings during the Covid lockdown and mentioned in particular the virtual camp organised by Rama and Akela in the Spring.

Tim then reported that Alan Thompson had been presented with an award for 25 years in Scouting.

The GSL raised the issue of funds, thanking people who have signed up for Easyfundraising or for Gift Aid or who are paying their subs during lockdown. Tim stated that the Group was entering a difficult period financially because we are so dependent on income from fundraising events which this year would not happen because of lockdown.

Tim confirmed that Scout Headquarters had just announced the lifting of most of the Covid restrictions but stressed that there was still a need to retain social distancing and good hygiene practices as much as possible.

Appointment of New Committee

Tim Burch explained the function of the Executive Committee and asked for nominations for the positions of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. There being no new nominations, the existing Chair, Secretary and Treasurer were re-appointed.

Chair – Courtney Salway. Treasurer – Pam Burch. Secretary – Marta Whitehouse.

Tim then said that he would be asking parents to volunteer to join the Committee as they were not currently well-enough represented.

District

Paul Bentley (District Commissioner) thanked everyone on behalf of East Somerset District for continuing with Scouting in such difficult circumstances and praised their achievements in doing so. He mentioned that the County Commissioner had been impressed that 2[nd] South Petherton had increased its membership in the last year despite lockdown.

Any Other Business

Jenn Hodge asked what was happening with regard to Explorer Scouts in our area. GSL explained that as an Explorer Unit is not part of the Scout Group, (it is part of the District Scout provision) it would not be appropriate to speak for them other than to say that plans were under way to relaunch the King Ina Explorer Unit which had been dormant during Covid lockdown.

There being no further questions, the Group Scout Leader closed the meeting with final congratulations and thanks to everyone for keeping 2[nd] South Petherton Group thriving.
