Section D Achievements and erformance p

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Since the last report which was dated to 31.3.2023, the Centre focused on gradually increasing the bookings for community and support services that were obviously linked to the needs and concerns of the local community e.g

The Community Association continued to receive support from local funding groups including Torbay Council, Sanctuary Housing, TCDT, and main grant funders like Devon Community Foundation, Awards for All. The council support for our social supermarket led to our joining the holiday voucher scheme to offer families with financial struggles discounted shopping bags. We also increased the opening hours of our Warm Space and with funding from the National Grid, we distributed Warm Packs to vulnerable residents.

Our Facebook page became the preferred method of promoting and celebrating the activities at the centre.

Due to the changing guidelines the committee decided to stop hosting parties and individual celebration bookings due to the high cleaning costs, rising utility bills, safeguarding concerns and unfortunate repairs after damage to the centre: it was no longer cost effective to host party bookings so the centre worked alongside partner organisations, social services, family intervention groups, NHS and other professionals to offer exclusive and safe ventilated use of the hall space which was a major consideration post-lockdowns

Covid-support grants were replaced by cost of living grants which supported our work even further and the committee continues to strengthen working partnerships with local organisations to offer great support and training services to the local residents because we feel this focus suits the centre.

We continued to work with a multi-organisational cohort delivering educational and fun activities and food as part of the Holiday Activity Clubs but within a more flexible framework funded by the social housing group Sanctuary. Joining the Food Alliance developed our social supermarket model rather than a food bank. And for the very hardest financially impacted people, we have a separate Food Pantry which allows ‘donations, swops or take’ without question or forms which generates itself through the generosity of the residents on the estate.
