Lewis Merthyr Band Annual Report 2021

The year enabled the return of normal activities of rehearsing, competitions and concerts with the removal of restrictions placed upon the charity by the Covid-19 pandemic. The charity performed at a wedding and an open day at the Great Western Colliery during the summer and also participated in a workshop on the music, Eastern Horizons which was commissioned by the Charity with Arts Council assistance during the pandemic.

During the latter part of the year, the charity provided the music, last post and reveille at the Bridgend Service of Remembrance, undertook the recording of much of Mervyn Burtch’s works, played carols at numerous public locations during December and also performed three concerts in Aberdare providing the musical accompaniment to the Snowman animation.

Rehearsals have been held during the year in a local, larger hall where social distancing was possible when required. The charity now looks forward to continuing normal activities into 2022 and beyond in providing music to the local community and also the creation of a Junior band to the benefit of the local area.
