CHAIIIPwlAN REI PORT
FOR THE YEAR ￿:￿I)F.￿ .11 Dfi,C.F.MBF.R 2020
20 REPORT
The year started out as re88onably nomial for the volunteers at MWR. We saw the usual calls for the time of year and
continued to assist with grey pups that had got into difficulty during th¢ winter breeding season. Mar¢h then came along
with the abrupt lockdown as a resuli of Covid-19. We continued our work as normal throughout the various lockdowns
that ensued. working to resolve the exlretnely busy common seal bre¢ding season during the Summer 2020. Yet again
we attended record numbers of pups it] our now 30 year existence. 2020 wa5 not Quite the year we had envi8aged tr)
cclebratc our 30 year anniversary.
Although much effort and planning went into ihe building and creation of a small rehabilitation unit, that has now had
to be shelved for reason8 beyond tsur control. We are grateful for that support we re¢eived during what was a difficult
year and we thank all of our supporters for what they do, individuals at]d corporate.
Going fotivard we now have an even closer working relarionship with East Winch Wildlif¢ Cenlre. We are transferring
the majority of our intake to the centre and only rearin￿ rehabilitating 8n￿ller numbers of wildlife. This relationship is
beneficial to all as the RSPCA has reduced fjeld staff os a rcsult of Ihc pand¢mic. Wc arc 5tcppiiig up to a5SiSt wiLIi
wildlife transfers. We also facilitate the transfer of the large grey entangled seals in association with our colleagues at
the Friends of Horsey Seals. We look delivery of our new funded custom-built trailer in late 2020 and haye put it to
great use already, many thanks to the Douglas and Joatjne Chapman Trusi again for your support.
Going forward we intend to expand on our services even more on the rescue Side of things, our volunt¢¢rs already
having put in record hours during 2020. We require y¢t MO￿ rescue equipment and we believe we provide the best
service we can in Norfolk and north Suffolk. Fortullat¢ly we have great working partners in the RSPCA, BDMLR and
the Friends of Horsey Seals, as well as a network of other r¢8cue providers in the county and beyond. Whilst the
pandemic did Cause harni with our potet)lial to ac(LveLy knndraise, we are pleased thai we continue to tick over. and
rinancial support steady during the year.
On behalf of all OE the Trustees. I would like to thank everyone who has supported what we do. We really couldtL't do it
without you.
