Report of the Trustees
- It is the understanding of Trustees that, such are the activities of this Trust, no formal policy covering financial reserves is necessary.
During 12-month period 2021/22 Trustees have engaged in the following support activities:
UK.
-
Financially supported elderly, poor and homeless individuals and families.
-
Financially supported UK Charitable Trusts.
India.
-
Trustees continue to provide modest financial support the widow of the late Rev Paul Gedela and her three children and especially higher education costs for Roslyn Gedela.
-
In previous years Trustees financially supported the purchase of land and construction of the building now known as Victor Community College, which provides valuable vocational training for local people. In the current year,
-
trustees continued to fund further development and running costs of this important educational facility.
-
Following a 2016 visit to Bangalore by Mr Robert Harvey of Lincoln, trustees created an additional UK Charity Commission approved ‘ working name’ – ‘ Escape from Poverty’ - to raise much needed funds to support Family Development Services (an Indian Charitable Trust). FDS provides education to children from the slums of

Bangalore who, ordinarily, would receive none at all. www.escapefrompoverty.org.uk
-
A highlight of this current year was a former pupil, raised in the slums of Bangalore but receiving her initial education in a Family Development Services school, returning as a qualified teacher.
-
Trustees are convinced education is one of very few routes out of Indian poverty.
-
During 2021/22 trustees financially sponsored the education of 16 young children from the slums of Bangalore.
Ghana.
In previous years Trustees have made grants towards the higher education costs of Jones Bamfo Ansah – who was brought up in a Ghanaian orphanage. In 2020 Ansah was awarded a Batchelors Degree in Economics & Politics from Ghana University. This year, a further grant has been made towards University tuition fees for a Masters course.
Summation.
Trustees continue to validate requests for support before making grants or donations and incurring expenditure, especially where potential recipients are based overseas.
Trustees are hugely grateful to all who donate or voluntarily raise funds for the Trust’s support activities.
Everyone involved with The Huxham Charitable Trust is a volunteer - nobody receives any payment for their services.
